The kid's got chops.

Yes and no. Most any of the drivers on the grid would do just as well in Ricciardo's shoes. That's how much of a difference the car makes. His teammate Vergne beat him pretty much every time his car didn't have problems last year. The thing about Ricciardo is he's got a personality and is likeable in addition to being fast. So yeah I feel bad for him.

Also I heard he gets a 10 grid place penalty in Bahrain.

Seems like he has inherited the Webber luck.

For the unsafe release?

Yeah. After last year the penalties for unsafe release are going to be severe.

Yeah, I guess I just like his attitude. ("If something happens, I want to be there for it.") But he was hanging tough with the veterans pretty well.

Bummer. I guess Bahrain will be quite a test for him.

According to some of the teams the lack of straight line speed with the DRS open for the renault powered cars means Ricciardo is going to have some real problems in Bahrain. Unless he can get by in the corners (Which is possible with these cars) I'm thinking they're up a creek.

Ugh. Poor guy.

Ah, interesting. I'll keep an eye out for that. Meanwhile, how about Hulk? I feel like that guy just needs a better car. The way he was fighting off Alonso on the hard tires was just heroic.

I love the little exchange where they said 'Hey, Ricciardo, you're getting a bit close to Vettel there' and he jsut said 'yeah, I think I'm going to keep doing that thankyou'.

Agreed. So awesome. "If something happens, I want to be there for it."

I definitely think Christian Horner's having flashbacks :)

I'm not so certain about Vergne vs Ricciardo. I'm not sure whether it's his attitude off-track that's affecting my perception of him on-track, but it seems like Ricciardo has more legs career-wise than Vergne.
I'd also wager that he'd be better at coping with having Vettel as a team mate. That could crush the morale of a lot of drivers, but I think Ricciardo's happy-go-lucky-slightly-ballsy attitude serves him well in that respect.

Despite all his troubles in the race, the guy didn't throw his toys out of the pram and shout on the radio as far as I heard. Keeps him in the nice guy list. Not many guys do that.

Yeah, he's struck the delicate balance between panache and professionalism.

I look forward to Ricciardo in the Porsche LMP1.
